Qala, the easternmost settlement, borders Ghansielem and Nadur and has various attractions.

Qala means bay in Arabic and Maltese, and its coat of arms displays a boat travelling on harsh seas. Hondoq ir-Rummien, a picturesque, sheltered inlet along a shoreline with rock-cut saltpans, is a local favorite for snorkling. The rest of the shore is rugged and offers great treks with views of Comino and Malta. Find Gozo's longest cart-ruts here—deep parallel grooves over 180 meters long. Il-Madonna tal-Blat (Saint Mary of the Rocks) chapel faces Comino.

Qala has several more attractions, including the island's best-preserved windmill and prehistoric relics. A Temple Period megalithic monument was found with a single menhir and ceramic sherds. Fuq l-Gherien, Marga valley, and the Immaculate Conception chapel have yielded Punic and Roman artifacts. The Knights of St. John built Ras il-Qala of Saint Anthony's Battery, known locally as It-Trunciera, in 1732 to defend Gozo's eastern shoreline. The British dug fourteen bunkers in Qala during WWII.

As archeological evidence shows, Qala has been inhabited from early times, but the community as we know it began in the late 17th century. Qala became a parish with an Immaculate Conception church in 1872. Saint Joseph Parish Church, erected in 1889, was consecrated in 1904. On the first Sunday of August, the local festa honoring St. Joseph decorates the streets and creates a festive atmosphere. Qala is also home to the largest traditional folk festival in the Maltese Islands.
